Pencil Bait
Hand Carved
Sometimes you don't need a big splash. You just need to make something tiny look nervous.
The Boyan Creek Walker is a miniature hand-carved balsa topwater pencil bait measuring only 22mm (0.87") and weighing approximately 0.7g (1/40 oz). It's built for ultralight anglers who want a true micro surface presentation for creeks, streams, ponds and other skinny water.
Unlike a popper that relies on a cupped mouth to push water, the Creek Walker uses its slim, lipless profile for a more subtle presentation. Short rod-tip twitches bring the little bait to life across the surface, imitating tiny injured or disoriented forage without blowing up a quiet pocket of water.
Twitch it across a calm pool. Work it beside an undercut bank. Sneak it behind a boulder. Let it sit beneath an overhanging limb. Then give it another little twitch and hang on.
Carved By Boyan. One At A Time.
Every Creek Walker is individually hand-carved and hand-finished by Boyan. At barely over 3/4 of an inch long, the craftsmanship packed into one of these little balsa baits is something you have to see in your hand to fully appreciate.
From the carved body and painted finish to the eyes, hardware and tiny single hook, each one carries the character of something made by a person — not stamped out of a machine by the thousands.
Give It A Twitch & Let It Wander
- Use short, light rod-tip twitches to bring the tiny pencil profile to life
- Add pauses around rocks, wood, shade lines and current breaks
- Work it slowly when fish are spooky or feeding on tiny surface forage
- Try a quicker cadence when fish are actively chasing
- Best paired with ultralight, XUL and light BFS tackle
Why So Dang Small?
Because creek fish spend a whole lot of their lives eating little things. When clear water, fishing pressure, or tiny forage makes a normal topwater look oversized, a 22mm micro pencil bait gives you a surface presentation that's closer to the size of what's actually swimming around down there.
What's Gonna Eat It?
Bluegill • Sunfish • Rock Bass • Redeye • Trout • Crappie • Creek Smallmouth
Don't let the size fool you. There's always something bigger looking up.
A Note About Handmade: Every Boyan lure is individually made by hand. Small variations in carving, paint, foil placement, eyes, hardware alignment and finish are normal. Those little differences are part of what makes each bait unique.
