Located in southwest Jefferson County, Pleasant Grove was originally sustained primarily by agriculture and grew dependent in mining. The town was not incorporated until 1934, when the locals were failing as the water table was undercut by the coal mines. The Federal grogram enabled the town to build a new water system after the town was incorporated.
